That is the logical conclusion of this line of thinking, yes. WhatвЂ™s the big deal with the illegal movies? The philosophy in the show goes that showing people an alternative history will open up their minds to what the world could be like and theyвЂ™ll want to shake off their oppressors and fight for freedom. Who is this High Tower guy? HeвЂ™s the one making the subsversive films and the FГјhrer is obsessed with stopping him. Meanwhile the alliance between Tokyo and Berlin is starting to fracture, and we see how that is being handled in the highest echelons of power. Juliana heads to the lawless neutral zone, where she meets up with Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), who just signed up with the resistance in New York and is carting some mysterious cargo.

Her artistic boyfriend Frank (Rupert Evans) is left behind to deal with the authorities, especially SS officer John Smith (Rufus Sewell). When a young woman in San Francisco, Juliana Crane (Alexa Davalos), winds up with an illegal film that depicts the allied powers winning the war, she goes on a quest to figure out what to do with it. The area along the mountain range is known as the neutral zone. Subsequently the US was divided in two: Germany was given everything to the east of the Rocky Mountains and Japan took the land to the west. Plus, the German and Japanese trade ministers are in secret talks, which would get either of them in very hot water if it were discovered.WhatвЂ™s the show about? ItвЂ™s 1962 and the axis powers won the second world war by dropping an atom bomb on Washington DC. Hitler is said to be ill, and the power struggle going on among his possible successors has everyone a little on edge. Meanwhile, thereвЂ™s some big drama paying out on the world stage, as well. (He later realizes heвЂ™s carrying contraband materials, too.) Someone chats Juliana up just to steal her luggage good thing she has the reel close by, eh? And Joe is shocked to learn, via a kindly state trooper (pardon me, autobahn patrol officer) in Missouri, that the local hospitals burn the elderly and terminally ill once a weekВ -В hence the ash, falling like snow as Joe stops to change a busted tire. Juliana says she willвЂ¦ but the next morning, working off instructions from one of her sisterвЂ™s contacts, boards a bus to Cannon City in TrudyвЂ™s place.Дuring their respective trips, Joe and Juliana encounter threats and revelations. вЂњJust having them is treason,вЂќ he says, scared, and demands that she turn the film in to police and distance herself from all things Trudy as soon as possible. A shell-shocked Juliana watches in tears when Frank comes home, he says heвЂ™s heard of the filmmaker -В known as The Man in the High Castle -В who makes anti-fascist movies. Inside the bag? A film reel marked вЂњThe Grasshopper Lies Heavy,вЂќ containing World War II news footage that looks familiar to us: victories at Normandy, Iwo Jima and the like. JulianaвЂ™s half-sister Trudy (Conor Leslie, Revenge) runs into her one day, saying sheвЂ™s вЂњfound the reasonвЂ¦ for everythingвЂќ but declines to offer details the next time we see her, she forces Juliana to take a purse sheвЂ™s carrying, then is shot in the street by the Japanese police who have been pursuing her. Meanwhile, in the Japanese Pacific States, we meet Juliana (Alexa Davalos, Mob City), who lives with her boyfriend, Frank (Rupert Evans, The BBCвЂ™s The Village) in California.

Just as Joe is about to leave, Nazi officers raid the facility young Blake makes it out in time, but others are killed and the leader is taken into custody. The shipping company boss, Warren (Michael Rispoli, Magic City), whoвЂ™s also a leader in the underground fight, hesitantly assigns Joe to drive a truck from Manhattan to the neutral zone between Germany and JapanвЂ™s areas of influence.
